The design of outdoor space involves place making through our understanding of the environment around us and space shaping in the design of gardens, urban parks and public realm. Manchester is our laboratory; design studio forms the main teaching method through a series of studios, 2 each year; all modules are supported with seminars, visits and workshops which develop knowledge and skills relevant to the Unit topic – landscape typology and character, design technologies; 2 units of contextual studies complete the curriculum each year; lectures and seminars in design history and theory provide the cultural and professional contexts within which the subject sits; these include the option to undertake an extended essay on a subject of personal choice in year 3.
