Education studies represents an area of study that has developed in significance over the last 20 years, having progressed from the role of theoretical top-up for serving teachers to an area of study in its own right; this is due the changing face of education, the increasing diversity of provision, due to government policy, and a rise in the number of players throughout the educational world; the English language aspect of the course examines the importance of language for communication and learning and provides insight into the politics and history of language; it also considers the implications of language difficulties and how this impacts on children's development and their lives; the literature aspect of the degree involves the consideration of different genres of text; it includes the study of traditional and modern stories, poetry and non-fiction; the study of children's literature and how children are portrayed in literature and film develops throughout the course and in the final year there is a chance for the student to write and perform their own piece.
