Lancaster's Department of Economics offers an active and stimulating research environment in which PhD students play an important part. As a PhD student in the Department you will be working within a high-quality research-active environment and a Top-10 UK university with a world-class reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Study is possible on a full- or part-time basis, and we currently supervise around 20 students on our MPhil/PhD programme in Economics. PhD students form an integral part of the research environment and participate fully in departmental activities.
Research is organised under five major areas:
• Experimental economics
• Industrial organisation and economic theory
• Labour, education and health economics
• Macroeconomics and financial markets
• Political economy and international trade
The University is located only three miles (five kilometres) outside the historic city of Lancaster, and the city is just half an hour south of the world famous national parks of the Lake District. Major cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh and London are easy to reach.
