One of the main challenges facing the human race is how to feed its people. Food production needs to rise by 50% by 2030, yet society expects that this additional food be delivered with reduced environmental impact.
Food security is also about addressing the associated socioeconomic factors to enable people to access sufficient, safe and nutritious food.
This scheme aims to train natural and social scientists to tackle these challenges, by providing interdisciplinary training and research with an international focus.
The University is located only three miles (five kilometres) outside the historic city of Lancaster, and the city is just half an hour south of the world famous national parks of the Lake District. Major cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh and London are easy to reach.
