The programme develops a deep understanding of the key embedded system technologies that shapes the design of tomorrow's electronic appliances; specifically, the programme targets skills in electronic systems hardware, computer and embedded system architectures, software development and systems programming, and in networks and operating systems; the course is a technical programme; it is founded on computer systems hardware, software engineering and programming, and it specialises in the areas of computer systems architecture, interfacing techniques and embedded systems; the programme: provides students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in the development of practical embedded computer systems; provides students with the ability to apply professional standards to the analysis, design, testing, evaluation and modification of reliable and maintainable software and hardware for embedded, real-time and distributed systems; develops the students' critical, analytical and problem solving skills in relation to computing issues; develops the students' skills in learning that underpins their ability to ensure that their technical skills can be kept up-to-date in a fast changing discipline and that they appreciate the need for continuing professional development; provides students with practical and transferable skills, such as oral and written communication, time management and group working, to assist them in subsequent employment or further study.
