The course aims to produce professionals who have the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours to function as physician assistants, and students experience a variety of assessment methods, which test the integration of theory and practice, such as reflective accounts, written examination, OSCEs (Observed Structured Clinical Examinations), and direct observation of practice; students have morbid anatomy sessions, work with simulated patients and also undertake a National Examination in order to attain the title of Physician Assistant in the award; students have a designated medical supervisor and placements are both within secondary and primary care; more than 50 per cent of the programme is spent in clinically-based learning with National Health Service partners.
