French Year 1: This may be chosen from Contemporary Germany, France and Spain in perspective, Linguistics, Film Studies and Information Technology. Year 2: you may choose to investigate language in society, realism and censorship in European literature, grammar, lexis and translation, semantics, or the role of the European Union in the development of economic, political and social integration. Year 3: you could explore translation, French cinema since 1970, Francophone: the French speaking world, Language in translation, questions of identity in European literature, words and their structure, or undertake a French studies project. German Year 1: Typical module options include: Introduction to European literature; language studies; linguistics; key themes in 19th century European history. Year 2: Typical module options include: Censorship or concepts of realism in European literature; semantics; impact of the European Union on the social, political and economic development of Europe; students may even wish to expand their studies by exploring Swedish language, culture and society, or investigate the constraints on language variation imposed by social context and stylistic choices. Year 3: Typical module options include: Fascism in Europe; issues of multiculturalism in Germany and Austria; or questions of identity in European literature; an exploration of words and their structure; German studies project, are further options.
