Year 1: Core engineering; professional studies and skills development (including design activities, laboratory and workshop exercises); engineering mathematics. Year 2: Builds on fundamental skills and knowledge with modules including solid mechanics and mathematical modelling and begins to diverge from the other streams with specialist modules on materials engineering; design is taught as a specific discipline from the 2nd year onwards. Year 3: Specialised materials engineering modules continue including materials and manufacturing; students focus on a materials engineering related topic in their individual project module. Year 4: The 4th year includes a substantial interdisciplinary group project in which students focus on a materials engineering related topic; further specialist modules include new advances in materials engineering; computational modelling; and mechanics of materials.
