The aim of this programme is to support and facilitate the academic and professional development of participants to reach a high level of mastery in the areas of education and religion; the programme aims to enable members to evaluate critically current research and advanced scholarship in the contemporary expression of social, cultural and political relationships in relation to religion in education in the developed west; throughout the different courses participants investigate philosophical and political developments as they relate to education and religion and engage with the central discussions and theories; participants critically evaluate post-modern pedagogies of religious education, multiculturalism in education, and the new relationships between states and faith schools; participants discuss new developments in theory, pedagogy and be encouraged to question the validity and premises of these developments; the problematisation of the current philosophical, theological and political discourses as they relate to the area of religion in education is a central aim of the programme.
