Buckinghamshire New University, BA (Hons), Jewellery
Year 1: Designed to combine the learning of a broad range of technical skills; the exploration of materials and the design developmental process; consequently students don’t need any previous jewellery making skills to join the course. Year 2: Develops and enhance the skills gained in year 1, by directing students learning towards scenarios associated with the commercial world; such as batch production, live competitions and an increasing emphasis on students developing their career aspirations and how they want to develop their own work in year 3; years 1 and 2 are combined with a theoretical studies programme; which helps students understand the historical background and contemporary context of their work. Year 3: The final year of both programmes, focuses on students as an individual and challenges them to explore in depth; areas of interest and specific issues that students have identified as a result of their work in years 1 and 2; this is combined with the writing of a dissertation, which also focuses on students personal interests.
