Year 1: The components of communication including sound; mark; word; type; image and colour are introduced and explored; emphasis is placed on experimentation and critical reflection; providing opportunities for students to experience a range of mediums; processes; technologies and concepts. Year 2: Students are encouraged to develop and expand their knowledge of the subject; and to begin to consider the professional aspects of graphic design practice; modules provide opportunities for exploring particular areas of interest, such as print; typographics; computer graphics; animation; video graphics; photo graphics; interactive multimedia and visual culture. Year 3: Students undertake a self-directed programme of work to examine a range of professional practice which reflects their individual interests; all students undertake a special study in visual culture which entails researching and presenting material; this usually takes the form of a written dissertation.
