The course explores the history of revolution and counter-revolution, building on the research expertise of members of the departments of history and politics; it involves 2 core seminars in the 1st semester that explore the theory and practice of revolutions in the past, followed by optional topics in the 2nd semester on specific revolutionary movements; the degree culminates in a dissertation supervised by an expert in the field; the core modules are compulsory; they are designed to introduce students to major themes and key debates, to the various lecturers, and to one another, during 2 series of weekly 2-hour seminars; put together, they are intended to establish an intellectual foundation upon which later research can build, and to familiarise students with the most influential theorists and examples of revolution in history.
