Course covers a range of American cultural production, including prose fiction, poetry, journalism, film, drama, television, radio and music. The course is structured around key themes and approaches with an emphasis on historical, social and political contexts and American identities (national, regional and individual). It is particularly concerned with the ways in which the 'USA' and 'America' have, arguably, become interchangeable terms. Most units adopt an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on literary, historical and cultural studies.
