Courses address professional values and practice; planning, expectation and targets; teaching strategies; monitoring and assessment; classroom management and inclusion. Importance is given to the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Information Communications Technology (ICT); emphasis is also given to Religious Education and trainees have the opportunity to study for the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS); courses are provided in all foundation subjects of the National Curriculum; trainees begin their studies across a broad range of subjects and subsequently make choices and study these selected subjects in greater depth; school experience is an integral part of each year of study; successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
