The student develops advanced academic English and study skills but also focus on a range of subject courses. There are pathways for students who want to study Media Studies, Arts and Humanities or Business, and an open pathway that can be tailored to suit the individual student.
In the first term (year long course only), you will have English classes timetabled for 16 hours per week. You will improve your ability to write essays and read for your studies in the module Academic Reading and Writing. In Academic Listening and Speaking you will work on understanding lectures and taking part in discussions and presentations. In Researching Britain you will learn more about British people and society and carry out a project based on your own interests.
In the second term (all students), you will continue to develop your English, with 10 hours per week of Academic English classes. However, more of your time will be spent on subject courses. You choose one of the pathways below, or one of the 4-year business degree programmes, depending on what you want to study in the future. The exact details of these courses may vary as we update and improve our programmes but the following will give you an idea of what to expect.
The International Foundation Certificate is for students who want to develop their academic English and their subject knowledge before beginning a degree. There are pathways within the programme for students with different subjects of study. The course is mainly taken by undergraduate students, but postgraduates who need a year-long course to develop their English before starting their degree also find it useful.
You can take a One Year IFC, from September to May, or the Fast Track IFC, from January to May.
