The theoretical component of the course is presented in a distance-learning format, utilising paper-based and computer-based learning media; the trainees follow a very structured learning experience; academic support wis provided by academic staff based at Anglia Ruskin University; students can discuss their work with University staff using a variety of communication media ranging from fax and telephone through email and the internet to video conferencing and text messaging; students are supported by locally appointed supervisors, who supervise the clinical training conducted by local staff; the modules follow an integrated approach where possible with the clinical modules including related theoretical aspects such as physics; imaging technology; anatomy; physiology and pathology.

Main campuses are located in Cambridge and Chelmsford, both within an hour from Central London by train. Cambridge is only an hour from London, by train, and can be reached via the M11. Chelmsford offers quick access to London, only 30 minutes by train, and good road connections to the whole of the UK.
