The Classical Music department, very international in its composition, is a close-knit community.

We work towards one common goal: to let our students blossom, in an amicable atmosphere, into excellent musicians whose energy and creativity offer a valuable contribution to the international world of music and to society.

Every year, enthusiastic and talented students apply to the Classical Music department of Conservatorium Maastricht. Making music is one of the most wonderful and fulfilling activities available to us. Music as a profession is a tough option: it takes more than talent or the gift of playing an instrument. It also requires skills such as curiosity, an active inquiring attitude and an artistic and social personality.

The Bachelor's programme in Classical Music aims to offer the right balance between technical skill and creativity, professional and artistic development, theory and practice, using teaching methods that are as practical and active as possible.

Students work together with their teachers, with each other and in regular contact with the professional world, to develop into valued and competent musicians.

The first 2 years, the core programme (70% of study) comprises mixture of music theory, basic repertoire, auditory/ solfège, music history and classes related to main degree subject, such as chamber music and orchestral training.

In year three, you choose a specialization and a decide how to use your free space (teaching modules).

This programme provides students with knowledge and skills for becoming a creative, professional and versatile musician. A musician who will eventually make a career for him- or herself as an inspiring player, band leader, composer, arranger, teacher, producer, organizer and/or manager, on a national and international level.
