In year 1 of the course trainees will broaden and extend their mathematics subject knowledge through the study of a variety of mathematics modules; while the key focus of the modules studied in this year is on mathematical content; there will also be a significant emphasis on how different areas of mathematics are related; and the different forms and structure that mathematics can have; in year 2 there are two main strands to the programme; one strand of the programme, based in the university; gives you a grounding in theory and practical issues; a second strand, approximately two thirds of the programme; involves active participation in school and college placements; the focus is on the professional application of the teaching and learning process in the 11-18 age range; trainees teaching experience will be organised by the school placement officer;
