This course gives students the ability to tackle situations that materials scientists and engineers encounter on an everyday basis; they learn how to tailor the properties of materials to meet design requirements, using an understanding of their structure, composition and processing and gaining experience in both materials and management issues; the course's incorporates business modules at each year of study, as well as case studies, design projects, group industrial projects, laboratory work, manufacturing plant visits, tutorials and the five-month MEng paid placement in industry; these give students the management skills needed in the organisation of a production or processing plant or the running of research and development projects; the course can be taken with French, German, Spanish or Italian; students study language modules throughout the course, and complete an industrial placement abroad; this gives them the skills and competence to work as a professional materials engineer in their chosen country.
