This course is designed to allow students increased specialisation throughout their degree; at level 1 students take 12 ten credit modules which introduces them to the fundamentals of sociological and policy analysis, and they study options from the department and wider university; at levels 2 and 3 their modules become more specialised; throughout their course students receive training in research techniques, information retrieval, group and presentation skills, study and analytical skills; in the final year all students write a long essay or dissertation on a subject of their own choice; this involves a sustained study project, which is individually supervised by a member of staff, and provides the opportunity for undertaking field research.
