This course allows students to become informed users of the Russian language and to develop their understanding of Russian culture, history and society. RussianThis course focuses on small-group teaching, and students are taught by internationally renowned experts in their field; beginners and post-A level students follow separate Russian language courses tailored to their levels for 2 full years; the core programme in Russian culture and civilization complements language instruction at each level; students study up to three Slavonic languages and spend at least 1 semester in Russia during their year abroad; students’ gain a thorough grounding in all aspects of spoken and written Russian, including conversation, reading, translating and oral presentation; the course also hones students’ reading, presentation and writing skills in English.MusicIn the Music department a personal tutor works with the student over 3 years to help them make the most of their studies and encourage students to excel; lectures, seminars and group tutorials are reinforced by individual supervision or feedback; the music part of the degree is assessed through projects, performances and coursework, giving students a chance to develop their skills and interests in an independent and creative manner; the performance module at level 1 is assessed by a short recital; the level 3 instrumental or vocal recital is given in public; while following a recital track students are given tuition on their principal instrument.
