In the Music department a personal tutor works with the student over three years to help them make the most of their studies and encourage students to excel; lectures, seminars and group tutorials are reinforced by individual supervision or feedback; the Music part of the degree is assessed through projects, performances and coursework, giving students a chance to develop their skills and interests in an independent and creative manner; the performance module at level 1 is assessed by a short recital; the level 3 instrumental or vocal recital is given in public; while following a recital track students are given tuition on their principal instrument. East Asian Studies The East Asian Studies side of the degree covers modern China, Japan and Korea, providing a unique perspective of one of the economically most important regions of the world in the 21st century; lecture modules include both comparative modules (covering all three countries) and country specific modules; modules take a contemporary social science perspective, and include various topics, including modern history, society, business, economics, population and environment, identity, and linguistics; there are also modules in East Asian languages available.
