In the 1st year of the course, students learn the basics of management, including behaviour at work, management information systems, marketing, and operations management, and also the related areas of accounting, economics, and quantitative and information technology (IT) skills; as well as studying core areas of management in the 2nd and 3rd year, the availability of options gives students the flexibility to study areas of management which interest students; the 3rd year group project gives students the chance to carry out a piece of research in conjunction with a real organisation, and apply in practice what students have learned so students can provide practical solutions to real issues; the university has links with companies that provide guest lectures and allow students to make company visits; this 4 year course allows students to gain a good understanding of both management, and Japanese; in the management part of the degree, students will gain a good grounding in the basic principles of management and then use this to specialise in particular areas of management like human resource management, management information systems or marketing; in the Japanese part of the course students take language classes throughout the 3 years in Sheffield and 1 year of intensive language study in their 3rd year of study at a university in Japan; specialised non-language modules include modern history, contemporary society, business, economics, population and environment, and identity.
