Acquiring a high standard of oral and written fluency is central to all levels of the course; at level 1 the programme introduces students to French society and culture from the medieval period to the present day, including film studies, and to modern French history and institutions; further specialist options in these areas are taught at level 2; at level 3 students spend the whole year in France, usually either as a language assistant in a school or studying at university; places are also available at the University of London Institute in Paris in association with the renowned Institut d'Etudes Politiques, final year students spend approximately 5 months at a French university; work placements are available in the Lille-Roubaix area, where students can follow courses leading to the Certificat Pratique de Français Commercial et Economique, combined with a work placement in a local company. Managemen: tIn the management part of the degree, students gain a good grounding in the basic principles of management and then use this to specialise in particular areas of management like human resource management, management information systems or marketing.
