Chinese Studies: Students take 3 years of language classes and lecture-based modules in Sheffield, and 1 year of intensive language study at a partner university in East Asia; the core modules for the programme cover East Asia as a whole, and students may also take any of the single country modules offered by the school of East Asian Studies; language classes are small, and students use the target language and script from day 1; the 1st year of language study covers all skills, from reading and writing to speaking and listening; later, the focus shifts to more advanced and vocational skills in writing, summary, translation, debate and oral presentation; the year abroad is a great opportunity to expand their language skills and understanding of local society and culture. Management: Students learn the basics of management, including behaviour at work, management information systems, marketing and operations, as well as related skills in economics and information technology; 2nd and 3rd years study core areas of management, such as strategy, consumer behaviour, corporate responsibility, human resource management and organisational behaviour.
