Biblical Studies: This is a flexible programme that allows students to study the ancient civilizations that contributed to the development of the Bible and their languages, including Hebrew and Greek, alongside the use of the Bible in contemporary society, including politics, art, film, literature, and music; at level 1 students do 2 core modules in Biblical Studies, other modules can include the Bible: fact or fiction?, the Biblical world, or Biblical Hebrew or Greek; students may also take modules in other subjects that interest them in the humanities, arts, sciences, or social sciences; at levels 2 and 3, the core modules on individual Biblical books help students to learn to read closely and explore the history of the text and examine the book's relationship to selected contemporary issues; there are also a range of options to develop a specialised interest in the Bible and students will write a dissertation on a topic of their choice in the 2nd semester of year 3; in year 2 students may take a semester at 1 of our partner departments abroad. We have a flexible system of assessment designed to suit different skills including coursework, group presentations, and formal examination. Music course offers variety of pathways through a broad and diverse spectrum of musical practice, encompassing ethnomusicology, composition and performance, the history of music, the psychology of music, the study of jazz and popular music, music education, music technology, and the music business; dual Honours students study half their modules in Biblical Studies and the other half in Music.
