This course focuses on how science of microbiology can be applied to the world of industry; the programme has the advantage of a 12-week work experience period in the vacation between the students’ 1st and 2nd years; employment is the result of a competitive interview and the good news is that students get paid; this is a real job with real money, which can improve students’ chances of finding employment in the world of industry; the modules available to students are the same as those on the microbiology (C500) programme, and students are encouraged to take courses on other aspects of biotechnology; students are also expected to produce written and oral presentations about their industrial placement scheme and attend workshops and lectures.

Location

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is around eight miles from the city centre and offers flights from various parts of Europe. A low-cost bus service from the airport to the city centre is operated by Merseytravel. Manchester Airport, which is around 45 minutes from Liverpool, is the destination for flights from around the world. There is a direct rail link and coach service from the airport to Liverpool City Centre.
