Studying History at UEA will build upon your curiosity to understand the unfolding history of humanity and help you to formulate a more critical awareness of the problems of the present.

As a history student you will learn techniques that equip you to understand how knowledge is constructed and manipulated, engage with interpretations and arguments and propose alternative solutions – intellectual skills for life.

History at UEA is taught by experienced and internationally renowned academics. Our modules are inspired by their research interests and expertise so you are at the forefront of the historical debate. We have particular strengths in British, European, Russian and Soviet history, the Atlantic world, the Middle East and Landscape. We offer a flexible approach to your degree, allowing you to design your own programme of study. You will have the opportunity to study abroad during your second year. In your second and third years you can also choose from our wide range of history modules as well as taking the opportunity to study subjects offered by other disciplines in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

The course provides students with the greatest range of choice by allowing them to choose from any of the history units in years 2 and 3; this is undoubtedly the option to choose if students are interested in most areas of historical study, or are unsure of the types and periods of history in which they want to specialise; it is possible to take modules in other subjects in years 1 and 2, but please note that these are not classed as minor subjects.
