The course provides training in geographical information systems (GIS) and in particular their application to a variety of environmental settings; it is ideally suited to GIS analysts, decision-makers and managers since it will provide hands-on experience of how to use a variety of GIS systems (ArcViewTM, ARCGISTM, MapInfoTM) in a real-world setting; participants are also able to select more specialist training relevant to their interests and expertise; the course is open to applicants with a wide range of subject backgrounds. Students with some GIS training will have subject expertise in geography, environmental sciences, earth sciences, town planning, built environment or information systems; applicants with no previous experience in GIS could have subject expertise from a wide range of areas eg business, computing, management, archaeology, biology, health, education, social sciences.
