English is the world’s foremost business language, and literally millions are learning it. Teaching English is a truly rewarding and fulfilling career, and one which will enable you to travel widely and come into contact with other cultures. There is an increasing demand for well-qualified TESOL professionals around the world. This degree enables you to develop the solid foundation of knowledge and the practical skills you need to teach English to non-native speakers of the language.

The course combines a focus on principles and theories with a concern to help you develop practical skills, and is taught by people who are both academic researchers and practitioners in their own right. It covers methodology, course and materials design, language learning and acquisition, and language analysis. There is also supervised teaching practice for those who need it and a range of options to choose from.

The core of the course covers three key areas: language teaching methodology, course and materials design, how languages are learned or acquired, and the study of language itself. You have to complete a total of 9 modules of which the Dissertation makes up a triple module. This will comprise a 15,000 word assignment on a topic which you propose yourself. You will have input on research methods and be allocated a supervisor from whom you can seek advice.
