The joint degree in Japanese aims to provide the student with the highest level of competence in all aspects of the written and spoken language, and with high level of competence in their 2nd subject. Japanese can be combined with a range of disciplines; the linguistics component of the combined subject degree is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of the way that languages are universally structured and trains students to master all the basic skills necessary for the analysis of different sound systems and semantics.

SOAS is based in the heart of London, and the capital's rich cultural and social life is literally on its doorstep.
