This programme is ideal for experienced practitioners in community practice, community hospitals and nursing homes where the majority of older people dying of chronic illness are cared for; the programme promotes maximising patient and client quality of life and choice in end of life care; it also provides an opportunity for those practicing in specialist palliative care hospital, community or hospice teams to access postgraduate study centred on a philosophy of interprofessional education that encourages collaboration across professions and a shared team culture; the prime aims are for each student to: Develop critical thought, analysis and appraisal skills; gain knowledge and understanding of important contemporary palliative issues necessary for higher levels of client centred practice and interprofessional working; gain enhanced inter-personal, communication and practical skills for their work role; create autonomous, self directed learners who are able to sustain and advance their continuing professional development beyond the programme and support others in the practice environment to develop themselves; experience the research process in palliative practice.
