The school-based school development programme provides a structured framework of support for teachers initiating and managing change in their own schools; the focus of the change arises from personal professional concerns and responsibilities, negotiated within the context of school, regional and national development priorities; the programme is organised through partnership with schools, clusters of schools (e.g. networked learning communities, excellence clusters) or other agencies (e.g. Local Education Authority or Educational Action Zone); seminars and individual supervision are arranged at the school or area base, with distance learning support including remote access to University library and information communication technology facilities; the programme enables the student to approach their practice in a more reflective and analytical way, to develop strategies for leading and managing change based on systematic enquiry and to develop skills, understanding and confidence in contributing to the school development process.
