This course has a strong vocational element and is of interest to anyone wishing to acquire a good working knowledge of GIS; the course introduces students to the basic concepts and principles of GIS and explains how this growing technology can bring real value to their work place; the course focuses on the practical use of industry standard software showing how GIS techniques can be applied to a number of situations such as: Planning use within local and county councils; environmental management; telecommunications; tourism and marketing; police work health, housing demographics etc.; the course demonstrates how other techniques such as remote sensing (aerial photography/satellite images) and global positioning systems (GPS) can be successfully integrated with GIS to provide powerful tools within these applications.
