This programme of study has been developed to meet the needs of those who have already completed an introductory course in supervision and who want to develop their skills and knowledge in relation to their supervisory role within the helping professions; it builds on the learning and skills developed in the certificate in supervision studies; in particular, it introduces the concept of supervision in the group context which is not addressed in the certificate programme; it also explores in depth the theoretical underpinning to multicultural approaches in supervision as well as further developing the knowledge and understanding of the social policy context in which supervision is practiced (e.g. Every Child Matters and Youth Matters); for example, emphasis is placed on the need for professionals to keep safe their clients and themselves, and issues around supporting practitioners with mental health difficulties will be explored; students also have the opportunity to extend their repertoires of skills; particular emphasis is placed on the use of advanced skills and techniques in supervision, both in the 1-to-1 and group context.
