Overview

Inspired by the strategic location in the heart of Europe, Zuyd University of Appllied Sciences educates students for international careers and actively supports and facilitates international work placements and study abroad programmes.

The main focus of Zuyd University is on Bachelor programs. It offers about 33 Bachelors' degrees and 13 Masters’ degrees, most of them taught in Dutch. Zuyd also offers five Bachelor’s and seven Master’s degree programs that are taught in English. Zuyd is an open knowledge institute where professionals in every phase of their development cross the borders of disciplines and organizations to collaborate on the development, transfer, and application of high-quality knowledge.

Applied research

Zuyd has 29 research centers. Associate professors, lecturers, and students carry out practically-oriented and socially-relevant research. They contributed to innovations and developments in the business sector and connect practice and education. In addition, Zuyd has defined three core points for its applied research. These core points contribute to regional development and were devised in close cooperation with the regional or Euregional government bodies, the business world, and educational institutions. The core points for research are:

  • Innovative care and technology,
  • Transition to a sustainably-constructed environment,
  • Life Science and Materials.

International network

Zuyd has close ties with foreign universities, companies and other institutions all over the world. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences is an active member of Hora Est, a network of universities of applied sciences in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. Several schools are members of the Magellan Exchange, a consortium of European, American and Mexican universities. The university also participates in the European Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus) and other exchange programs. Zuyd offers many placement opportunities abroad.

Location

Zuyd is based in Heerlen, Sittard, and Maastricht. The university has eleven locations in these cities. Its strategic location in Europe (on the border with Belgium and Germany) offers unique opportunities for students and businesses. Big cities like Aachen, Cologne, Brussels and Antwerp can all be reached within an hour. This facilitates getting an international internship at one of the numerous international businesses or doing an exchange program at one of its partner universities in the region.
