The course combines a lively, communicative approach to language learning with the study of contemporary French culture, politics, economics, and society; equal emphasis is given to the development of written, oral, aural and reading skills; the opportunity to spend a year abroad in a paid work placement or studying in France helps students gain a wider perspective of the world; the Spanish course emphasises practical communication skills using written, audio and visual materials developed by university staff, as well as commercially available courses; our Spanish foreign language assistants prove invaluable to students in the improvement of their speaking and listening skills; the course provides the opportunity for a year or semester overseas, which can be spent studying at a university (in Barcelona, Granada, Málaga and Santiago de Compostela amongst others), in a work placement, or as a foreign language assistant in a secondary school.
