This is a dual Honours programme which allows the student to combine 2 subjects on an equal basis; this allows the student to pursue 2 subjects of interest rather than 1 and can enhance the development of transferable skills and widen postgraduate opportunities; the student also has the opportunity to elect module(s) each year, in a different subject to their chosen 2; many students choose to take a module to enhance their learning skills; the modern foreign languages (Spanish) programme is suitable for both students who already speak some Spanish and also for students starting from scratch; during the programme the student develops their language skills to high levels and learns to communicate fluently and correctly; at the same time the student explores and analyses different aspects of Spanish culture and society; the addition of a foreign language to the student’s programme of studies helps them stand out from other graduates in their chosen area; it gives the student an important edge when it comes to getting a job; it also opens up careers such as teaching in the United Kingdom or moving abroad to find new opportunities; the subject of education is offered within the combined subjects programme with the intention of providing a sound base for students who wish to further their study in 1 of these 2 areas; the knowledge and understanding the student gains supports and enhances a public or private sector career that involves the organisation, provision and management of staff development and training; it is also an ideal background for those who wish to go on to take a teaching/lecturing qualification in their major subject, or in primary education.
