Globally, computer science systems, networks and applications affect our everyday lives in healthcare, business, entertainment and communications.  At Southampton, the Computer Science graduates have a world-leading reputation for creative solutions based on cutting-edge knowledge and state-of-the-art technical skills.

The University offers a three year option or the four year MEng Computer Science which is an integrated Masters and includes the following:


A year in industry – sometimes known as a placement year, or sandwich year – is a great way to give you a competitive edge among graduate recruiters by showing you can relate your academic skills and knowledge to contemporary industrial practice. It can help you to connect with future employers, add value to your CV or launch your career in a new-found direction, as well enabling you to develop business and team-working skills in your chosen industry.


The year in industry is taken after Year 2 or Year 3 and is assessed by academics and industry experts. During the year you will continue to have the support of the University with regular contact between you and the ECS team.

Southampton is located on the South coast of England, close to the New Forest and the Isle of Wight. Just over one hour by train from London. The main campus is bordered by the beautiful Southampton Common - over 300 acres of managed woodland - creating the perfect combination of a thriving natural environment and a bustling, cosmopolitan city. One of the UK's top 10 retail destinations, a busy port and sailing centre, and one of the safest places to live in the UK, Southampton is a city that looks to the future with expectation and ambition. Excellent road, rail, sea and air links to the area enables students to travel extensively and always be flexible about transportation.
