This course builds on your existing knowledge of finance, banking or business to prepare you for a challenging and rewarding career in any banking specialism. You follow an advanced and up-to-date programme of study using industry-standard trading software.

We provide you with a broad vision and understanding of the changing nature of modern banking firms. You develop a detailed understanding of areas including:

  • portfolio management
  • modern banking methods
  • bank strategy and risk
  • regulation and the internationalisation process

Our MSc Banking and Finance is also available to study part-time and you may be eligible for scholarships and discounts provided by the University of Essex. Essex Business School also offers a limited number of scholarships for the CFA level one exam and IMC level one and two examsto exceptional Masters students.

Structure of the course

A Masters course lasts for twelve months (full-time), starting in October, and consists of taught modules during your autumn and spring terms, and normally a research-based dissertation or other project-based work submitted in September.

Location

Essex is a county in the east of England and is situated to the east of London. From pretty villages set in peaceful surroundings to busy market towns steeped in history, from tranquil walks along wide sandy beaches to town centres brimming with history and culture, there is plenty on offer in the beautiful county of Essex.

Essex has excellent links by rail and road into central London. Trains run between central London and both Colchester and Southend taking up to an hour. The University's East 15 Acting School is approximately 45 minutes from central London on the London Underground Tube.
