This innovative degree allows you to combine the study of geography with international development to tackle the biggest challenges facing the modern world – poverty and inequality, food security, climate change, conflict, global governance, sustainability and migration. You will study entire modules dedicated to the development of regions of the world such as South Africa, South Asia, Latin America and will have the option to focus on development economics, social anthropology and politics, alongside honing your practical field skills.

The geography aspect of the degree will specialise in human and social geography to compliment your study of international development, though you may also choose optional modules in environmental geography.

Employability is integrated into your learning – alongside your academic study, you will develop practical skills training, field experience, IT skills including GIS (Geographic Information System), and benefit from optional work placement opportunities across the globe.

Fieldwork and field courses are a vital part of the degree. In addition to field-work elements in a number of the taught modules we have a weekend residential trip in the first year. We also offer a choice of UK and international geography field courses in the second year and the opportunity for more international experience through the overseas work placement and/or dissertation research.
